“Isn’t the Ritz-Carlton closed at the moment?” asked my friend as she watched me pack my family’s bags for the third in a series of staycations to take place over a handful of weeks. She wasn’t alone in thinking this; after all, things have been rather quiet over on the hotel’s exclusive West Bay Lagoon island overlooking the Persian Gulf recently. What most people aren’t aware of however, is that inside the doors of the Ritz-Carlton Doha, it’s been a veritable hubbub of activity.
Change has been afoot at this elegant luxury hotel for months now and I was really excited to finally be able to experience it first hand.
Of all the luxury hotels that my family and I have been lucky enough to stay in, some of the improvements and upgrades to the facilities in this hotel make it stand out amongst the best of them. From the extensive, refined and unique club lounge, to the world-class spa and beautifully designed, immaculate rooms, the newly imagined Ritz-Carlton Doha has taken luxury to a whole new level in Qatar.
I couldn’t wait to get home and edit my photos so that I could take you all on a virtual tour. I have an inkling that you’re going to like what you see.
We’d already had our first taster of the quirky yet sophisticated interior decor of the new Ritz-Carlton Doha’s bedrooms when we had booked ourselves into the hotel for a mini escape earlier in the summer.
The Deluxe Rooms offer ample space (a whole 51 square metres of it to be precise), with French Oak Hardwood floors, brightly coloured furnishings, state of the art entertainment systems and thoughtful cozy touches which give you that feeling of home.
However, it was our more recent 22nd floor marina view Executive Suite which really stole the show. It’s a truly remarkable space. The painstaking attention to detail that has gone into every minute fixture and furnishing, artwork and installation is apparent as soon as you walk through the door.
A light and bright Tuscan marble entrance hall sets the scene for what lies beyond, with the luxurious marble extending to the bathrooms, which house sensor tubs, automatic toilets and his and hers sinks.
Unique pieces of furniture have been crafted especially for the hotel, giving a comfortable, stately home aesthetic.
A well-appointed living room is separated from the bedroom by French Doors, meaning that the living space can be subdivided as the occupants choose. Open the doors for an open plan, breezy, spacious feel. Close them at night time to up the cozy levels (or when the baby requires a dark and quiet space to sleep).
The bed was enormous and comfortable, stylishly backed by a striking blue leather headboard.
I loved the spacious dressing room with its ample hanging space, dressing table and well-lit mirror; features which are so uncommon in hotels, yet so necessary.
But my favourite feature of all was the view over the marina and out to the open ocean from our balcony.
The Club Lounge
I have visited a fair few Club Lounges in my time, but there aren’t many which can rival the experience that my family and I received in the newly appointed Club Level at the Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The unique ‘hotel within a hotel’ concept has been cleverly thought out to provide a modern, residential feel to the floor, which boasts five different areas: a welcoming lobby, a seated ‘in residence’ area, a library, a dining room space and a kitchen.
With the rich marble and carpeted floors, elegant furniture and unique furnishings, you could almost be lounging in an upscale central London townhouse apartment, rather than the Club Lounge in a modern hotel.
Modern design features and bright artwork feature heavily throughout, with highlights which include the individually stylised coffee tables, a cosy reading corner, complete with floor to ceiling bookshelves and magnetic chess set (which Sophia loved) and the stylish seating areas, which manage to hit the right balance between elegance, practicality and comfort.
With Club Lounge access, guests are able to access five different beverage and culinary experiences daily, ranging from an incredible breakfast spread…
To afternoon tea…
And delicious hors d’oeuvres and chocolate & cordials.
All of the food was exquisite, but it was the hospitality offered by all of the staff on the floor which provided the overriding memory of our club lounge experience. No request was too big, and no noise or disruption by Baby Sunshine too irritating; quite the opposite in fact.
We were welcomed with warmth and kindness, and I was reminded that despite the Ritz-Carlton Doha’s chic vibe and excellent amenities, the staff are the hotel’s greatest asset by far.
An atmospheric, candlelit corridor leads you into the depths of the new Ritz-Carlton Doha spa where the interior design has been carefully constructed to create a serene sensory experience.
The interiors, as well as the spa menu take inspiration from the hotel’s location on the edge of the Persian Gulf and Qatar’s Pearl diving heritage. Signature therapies even include real Pearls as part of the treatment.
I enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours of tranquility here, with a mind blowing massage followed by a little alone time to catch up on some reading and collect my thoughts with a warm herbal tea.
The spa’s design is among the best I have seen, and has set the yardstick for some of Doha’s more well-known and established luxury hotel spas in months and years to come.
It had been a revelatory 48 hours in the hotel, filled to the brim with fabulous surprises. But the most exciting element of the Ritz-Carlton’s incredible evolution is yet to be divulged. It will mark the completion of the hotel’s re-imagination, and consummate its vision to remain a front runner among Doha’s luxury five star hotels.
I’m really excited that I’m going to be able to share this final reveal with you in an exclusive interview in due course… Watch this space!
