Weekly Ponderings 19

This week I was excited about…

My Doha hen do! Take one very good blogger friend who is also getting married in July, one amazing hotel that very kindly offered to host our bash in their Presidential Suite and fifteen scrummy expat buddies, and you have a recipe for an incredibly fun night. I’m suffering a little bit today, but waking up next to Rosalyn in our big bed overlooking the sea this morning is a memory I’ll never forget – a real ‘pinch me’ moment. Just 7 weeks until the wedding now!

So much love for these ladies. Last night, my good friend Noha from @grandhyattdoha put on the best hen do for myself and @dreamdaysblog in the Presidential Suite of the hotel. We started with drinks on our balcony with our very own waiter and finished in Dunes bar before Ros and I returned to our huge king size bed for the night. Little touches like the amazing (penis) cake made by my friends Agi and Cornelia, the badges and sashes brought by Karen, the enormous I Love You helium balloon and all the effort put into the games and organisation made us feel very very special. What a great way to celebrate the last few weeks before married life!! 👰💃 #hendo #henparty #girls #friends #party #wedding #marriage #reallybloodyclosenow

Ros said it all. Waking up in the presidential suite this morning after a night with amazing friends and we’re feeling pretty lucky!! #Repost @dreamdaysblog with @repostapp.

Starting the day with a much needed coffee as I’m awake super early despite getting to sleep at 3.30am after a night of dancing, Mr & Mrs and penis cake. I’m so glad @polbag asked me to be part of her hen do celebrations as the suite we’ve stayed in is just amazing and I’m feeling very lucky and spoilt. Sometimes Doha life can be absolutely fantastic and I’m really punching myself right now 😊 Thanks so much to @grandhyattdoha for arranging everything-it’s been incredible! #doha #qatar #weekend #oxerwedding #happy #hendo #pinchingmyself #thisisthelife

This week I was reminded…

About the life of a wonderful woman. My gran passed away this week after a drawn-out battle with cancer and I’ve spent some time today reflecting on her incredible personality and fierce independence. When I was 15, she took me on the trip of a lifetime to India, and the whole experience changed me in so many ways – not least because I got to know her on a deeper level. She was an inquisitive explorer who was always seeking to learn more about the world around her. Through her long career as a social worker, she became an influential member of her local community and she had strong ideas about life and what is important. If I live half the life that she did, then I know that I will be incredibly happy and fulfilled. I am sad but relieved at the same time and just hope that wherever she is now, she is in peace.

For the first time this week I’ve had some time alone to come to terms with the fact that my wonderful grandmother on my dad’s side passed away this week. She had been battling cancer and dementia for a long time and finally gave up the long fight on Tuesday. She was a tenacious, strong-willed, fiercely independent woman who inspired me in many things, including passing on her love of travel and discovering new places in the world. Herself and my grandfather also had a 46 year, very happy marriage before grandpa passed away and this is something Rich and I will always aspire to. Happiness is key, and happiness together is powerful. RIP gran xxx

Quote of the week…

This has been one of the fullest, most rollercoaster-like weeks that I can remember, and I am now more than exhausted. I think I will be spending most of tomorrow in a horizontal position! I hope that wherever you are, you have a fantastically sunny and relaxing weekend. Until Sunday! x

A real rollercoaster – I have lost 3 of my grandparents now and it is so painful, but so many lovely memories too! Good timing to have fun plans with friends at the same time and to be busy planning your wedding

So sorry to hear that Anna, it never gets easier does it? But you're right, those memories will last forever. The fun bits were excellent timing and just what I needed to take my mind off things.

Thanks lovely. So hard to be away from home at the moment but the hen do definitely helped. The mugs were an engagement present from one of my friends – they're amazing aren't they?! I often drink out of the I love Polly one just to annoy Rich 😉

Thank you Lucy. It's my first real experience of it, and it is just horrific. I have so much respect for anyone living with it. The location of the hen do was stunning! Rosalyn and I are so so lucky.
